The only sub-COs I knew were long-time (20, 30, 40 year) elders. Of course, as in most areas of life, it's all about politics and "who you know."

Faithful slave has been around since the 1st Century?? So why DIDN'T Charles Russell join them?
by Witness 007 inthe watchtower claims there has been a "faithful slave" since jesus time till now so.....why did russell go independent and start his own group of bible students?
why did he claim the title for himself alone?.

Regarding Russell's claim to be the faithful slave, see this quote from the 12/1/1916 WT, p. 356:
- "Thousands of the readers of Pastor Russell's writings believe that he filled the office of "that faithful and wise servant," and that his great work was giving to the Household of Faith meat in due season. His modesty and humility precluded him from openly claiming this title, but he admitted as much in private conversation."

@ djeggnog
by bennyk in2:16), and sanctified (john 17:19; 1 cor.
7:25; 1 john 2:1), high priest (heb.
3:29; 4:7; titus 3:6,7; heb.

It's clear from this thread that djeggnog is at least one of the following:
- Not a Witness
- Unfamiliar/ignorant/confused about what the WT Society actually teaches
- Deliberately trying to be deceptive about what the WT Society actually teaches
djeggnog stated the following (pay particular attention to the portion in bold):
Children are deemed "holy" on account of their believing parents; if neither is believing, then the child that you think to be so innocent will, in fact, perish at Armageddon, and if he or she dies before Armageddon and he or she has no believing parent, that child will perish in this life and will not receive a resurrection. Do you now feel you have a better understanding of what the Bible teaches? of what Jehovah's Witnesses teach? Put this question to your wife and my hope is that she will be just as frank with you as I have been here.
Note that the bolded statement is in direct contradiction to Acts 24:15 (resurrection of righteous and unrighteous) and the WT Society's interpretation of that verse. The Society teaches that "worldly" people who die before Armageddon can be resurrected as part of the "unrighteous." So, under WT theology, a child who dies in a car wreck today is eligible for a resurrection--whether or not the child's parents are Witnesses. For some unknown reason, djeggnog is taking it upon herself to judge who God is going to resurrect. Quite a presumptuous position!
Of course, the WT Society does teach that when Armageddon comes, their God will kill all non-witnesses, including children. But that doesn't change the fact that djeggnog's statement above about a child dying before Armageddon is either made out of ignorance or an attempt to deceive.

Has anyone here been a 'chairman' for an assembly? Question with regard to the script for introductions
by ThomasCovenant indoes anyone know if the chairman's introductions and announcements are completely scripted?
particularly with the use of adjectives and adverbs when introducing talks and speakers.. 'as we listen intentedly....'.
'we eagerly look forward to bro so and so's talk'.
-

I'm not the least bit surprised that the chairman's remarks are scripted. We all know what happens when you put an JW in front of a microphone with no script. Here's a hint: "Dear Jehovah...blah blah blah for 5 minutes...blah blah blah for a couple more minutes...Amen."

Knowledge of Good and Evil
by cameo-d inin 1 kings 3:9, solomon asks for wisdom to discern between good and evil.
in verse 10 we are told this request was pleasing to god that solomon had asked for this instead of riches.. wth?
adam and eve got kicked out of the garden for wanting that same knowledge!.

NVL: (Genesis 2:17) . . .But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”
Isn't it interesting how the first character in the Bible to tell a lie isn't Satan...rather it's God?

I'm gonna have to call BS on this one. There has been nothing in print retracting the WTS prohibition. A couple years ago board member Drew Sagan and his wife were DF'd for being members of the Y.

for example, recently twin baby girls were attacked in their cots while their parents were down stairs.
both suffered life changing injuries.. my daughter knows a couple who have waited years for a baby and eventually had i.v.f.

Universal sovereignty, right? *sigh*
A poster above referenced Epicurus who stated:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

finally read Crisis of Conscience
by A.Fenderson ini recently finished reading crisis of conscience.
in short, it was one of the most important books i've ever read, even considering that i left the kh 13 years ago.
i honestly cannot see how anyone could read it and still maintain that they believe in the wts religion--have any of you ever known someone to read it and actually still believe and be happy with the jw religion?

Brotherdan, I'm curious--as a strong JW what prompted you to read CoC?

MP3s !!! 2010-2011 DC TALKS
by yknot incommentary on mp3s: (in addition to circulate as you see fit!).
in light of the wts's recent attempts to conceal it's talks from broader inspection and documentation, mp3s to the public are now mostly the works of the 'conscious class' and those exjws who force themselves to endure hours upon hours of control-laced presentations.
kudos to all those who embody anonymous.

At least some of the talks feature speakers from Wisconsin, USA.

Ever feel guilty listening to the Rolling Stones as a dub?
by undercover inthis is aimed more for people who grew up when the beatles and stones were first popular, i guess.
now it's completely silly and ridiculous, but it's funny how hearing an old song on the radio can bring back certain memories.... back in the 60s, early 70s i was a big beatles fan but for the most part none of their music was ever labeled 'dangerous' or 'subversive', even as a youth growing up in the jw cult.
even their more psyhcedelic stuff was tamer than other bands of the era.

I always liked sympathy for the devil, even as a dub. I thought the song was generally consistent with JW theology--namely that the devil was controlling governments, causing wars, etc.
Of course, there's the line about Jesus Christ having his "moment of doubt..." but overall the song seemed consistent with what I believed about the devil at the time.
